17 runners conquer London half marathon

Seventeen wonderful women and men ran the event for Momentum, joining more than 20,000 others in what is now one of the most popular half marathon events in the UK.
We are so proud of all our runners who dedicated months to training for the race day. Every person had a different reason for running for Momentum, something that kept them focussed and on track as they pounded the pavements, passing many famous London landmarks on their way.
Katie Morris, from Rochester, Kent, ran for Momentum after the charity supported her cousin Alice through her cancer treatment. Katie said: “The run was a real challenge, but knowing I was doing it for an incredible charity really helped me power through. Towards the end I could see the Momentum banner and I knew my auntie and uncle were there cheering me on – knowing how much this meant to them kept me smiling. My children, fiancé, and my best friend were at the finish line waiting for me. Receiving congratulations messages from friends and family that were tracking me from home was an incredible feeling! I am tempted to try the full marathon for Momentum next year – double the distance so hopefully double the donations!”
Brother and sister duo, Emma and Duncan Mackenzie, from Slough and Addlestone, also ran for Momentum. Emma said: ““Having recently got into running, we decided to challenge ourselves to run the London Landmarks Half Marathon and thought that Momentum were the perfect charity to run for. We both work in the public sector and can appreciate how difficult it must be for the families Momentum supports, so we chose them as our charity. The run itself was really fun, although hotter than we expected, the crowd and entertainment really boosted spirits and helped us to get over the finish line. We both achieved PB’s and were delighted with the race. We would highly recommend the London Landmarks Half Marathon, and who knows maybe next year we will do the full marathon!”
Another one of our runners, Sally Frost, from Teddington said: “I was thrilled to run for Momentum, especially as it’s a charity local to me. From January I met with other runners every Saturday morning outside Hampton Court to train for the half marathon – we wore Momentum running vests with pride as we pounded through Bushy Park and along Kingston riverside. I have to mention that one of the Saturday mornings we ran it was -7 degrees! On the day of the race the weather couldn’t have been more perfect. It was a beautiful day in London, and when I neared the finish and saw the Momentum crew cheering me on, the slog of the past 13 miles made it all worthwhile. The money raised through sponsorship was ultimately the most worthwhile part of it all.”
This year’s event was a record breaker with more than £13.99m raised for good causes. To date, our team of runners have raised more than £10,000 for Momentum with donations still coming in – incredible! Every penny makes a huge difference to families in Surrey, Sussex and London who have a child who is seriously unwell.
