Seventeen amazing people made up Team Momentum, raising more than £70,000 – astonishing! This is a record-breaking amount, the highest fundraising total that has ever been achieved from a Momentum London Marathon team! Thank you to every person that has sponsored our runners. Funds raised will help us continue to be there for more families with very unwell children.

During the iconic event, participants ran past some of the capital’s most celebrated landmarks including The Shard, Tower Bridge, Canary Wharf, St. Paul’s Cathedral, The London Eye and Buckingham Palace.

Elin Roberts, a mum whose family is being supported by Momentum, completed the Marathon for Momentum. She said: “I was incredibly nervous at the start but knew what I needed to do. I really enjoyed every part of the run, the support from the crowds who lined the streets was unbelievable. The courage that my son Oliver has to demonstrate on a daily basis is incomparable to the discomfort of running a marathon. I knew I had to dig deep and carry on for Oliver and for all the children and families supported by Momentum. The finish was incredibly emotional; I sat down and reflected on everything I had achieved to get to that point. All the hours of hard work in training, to the actual event itself was totally worth it, and the thought that I had managed to raise such vital funds for Momentum was just the best feeling in the world. I can honestly say, I won’t be running another marathon any time soon!”

Frank Cunnane, who also completed the event for Momentum, said: “The support along the route was just simply amazing – the outpouring of support, verbal, music – it was almost a carnival like feeling. Nothing short of stunning and you had to soak it up. As cramp set in, I was overtaken by an ‘ironing board’, a two-person operated ‘camel’ and offered a lift by one of the wheelchair racers (which I politely declined!). And, last but not least by a ‘rhino’ that had apparently run 99 marathons, leading me believe that could be a contributory factor to its extinction! I got to the finish line and that is the main thing. I guess I will have to run again next year to improve and build on the experience.”

Our runners really appreciated our cheer squad of enthusiastic volunteers who gave up their time to support our runners, cheering them on from the sidelines and giving them a motivating push to make it to the finish line!
