Joe Cole, of Peaky Blinders and Gangs of London fame, has pledged to raise as much money as he can for the small charity by cycling an eye-watering 980 miles from Lands’ End to John O’Groats.

Fresh out of filming ITV’s Unsaid Stories, a series of short films inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, Joe has been hard in training with five of his friends; clocking up 9-hour ‘morning’ drills as commitment to their cause.

As Joe explains “UK Charities have been hit catastrophically by the effects of the global pandemic, so as lockdown restrictions were lifted, we decided to set ourselves a challenge that would celebrate the things we had previously taken for granted; our well-being, companionship, and the Great British outdoors, whilst coming back together as a group of friends to raise money for an incredibly worthy cause.”

Based in my hometown of Kingston upon Thames, Momentum Children’s Charity are close to my heart and I hope that this challenge will go some way to helping them continue to be there for families whose children have cancer or life-challenging conditions.

Just months ago, Momentum Children’s Charity faced a very uncertain future. The coronavirus pandemic left the charity facing huge financial losses, and strict social distancing regulations prevented them from being able to continue their vital support to seriously ill children in hospital and at home. Fast forward to today and their Family Support Team are starting to be welcomed back onto children’s wards to work alongside their NHS teammates. There’s still a long road ahead but, with Joe’s amazing fundraiser leading the way, the charity is feeling much brighter about the future and hope his challenge will inspire others to take on their own Miles for Momentum this Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
