This month, Noreen Hughes, Paediatric Oncology Specialist Care Unit Lead Nurse at Epsom and St Helier Hospital in Surrey talks about her role as hospital ambassador for Momentum:

“I am the POSCU (Paediatric Oncology Specialist Care Unit) Lead Nurse for Epsom and St Helier Hospital. I have worked in paediatric oncology for 15 years and have been in my current role for six years. My job varies so much, and each day holds different challenges, but I wouldn’t change it for the world. The lovely thing about my job is being able to support patients and families through the hardest time of their lives in the hope that I make their treatment journey that little bit easier. It is a privilege to care for all the children and young people under our POSCU. I work very closely with amazing clinicians, ward and daycare teams, as well as community nursing teams every day.

I took on the role of hospital ambassador as I see first-hand the important work Momentum do to support families. It was an honour to be asked to carry out the role and to act as a representative for Epsom and St Helier Hospital. Within my role, I have actively worked to raise awareness of Momentum and the support they offer, highting this in our quarterly newsletter. I also refer local families to Momentum for support from the charity.

Diana, our Family Support Worker from Momentum plays a crucial role within our POSCU. She works closely with families who have children undergoing treatment and has a good relationship with staff. We would be lost without her!”

Thank you for everything you do for Momentum, Noreen! Find out more about our hospital partnerships here
