School children go for gold at Olympic fundraiser
Children, parents, and staff from the school on Rose Lane, Ripley, dressed in the bright colours of the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) as they walked laps of their playing field waving flags from their chosen country. One pupil, Oliver, completed an impressive 26 laps, and children from Year 4 collectively walked the furthest, totalling 389 laps!
Our mascot, Mo the owl, made a special appearance, surprising the children and hooting them on to reach the finish line.
Ripley Court chose to fundraise for Momentum after learning that one of their former teachers, Miss Roberts, was being supported by the charity. Elin Roberts, who taught at Ripley Court for more than 10 years, was introduced to Momentum when her youngest son Oliver, 2, was born with what doctors believe is a rare genetic neuromuscular condition. Elin and Oliver recently spoke at an assembly at Ripley Court, telling pupils all about Momentum and how we support local families.
Tracey Mangold, Marketing Manager at Ripley Court School said: “We are thrilled with the success of our charity walk fundraiser for Momentum Children’s Charity and the incredible generosity of our school community in surpassing our fundraising target. Our motto, ‘Non nobis solum’ (Not for ourselves alone), consistently reminds us of our commitment to others. It is heartwarming to see our school community come together to make a difference in the lives of others. The beautiful weather coupled with our excited, happy children made our charity walk fundraiser a lovely way to end the half-term.”
A HUGE thank you to pupils, parents and staff from Ripley Court for organising such a fantastic event!
